Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports

PBIS Mission Statement

California PBIS Coalition promotes a safe and positive social culture in all California school communities by:

  • Sharing effective academic and behavior practices

  • Providing opportunities for networking

  • Supporting deeper learning of PBIS implementation

  • Using fidelity and outcome data to inform our practice

ECHS became a PBIS Implementation school in our school district in the 2016-17 school year. We have a 4-member PBIS team comprised of our Activities Director (PBIS Coach), High School Counselor, Campus Safety Facilitator, and Principal. We look at ways to recognize those students who display the positive behavior character traits that make up PBIS throughout the school year. This is done through our GOTCHA Program, the Semester Citizenship Awards, and the Annual Awards Night.

In the 2017-18 school year, we implemented our PBIS Matrix of Expected Behaviors to be exhibited by all who attend ECHS. This behavior matrix was developed by our ASB with input from our ECHS Staff, School Site Council and PTSA. Below is our ECHS PBIS matrix where we are striving to commit to the behaviors "Every Day, Every Time, Every Where."

In the 2018-19 school year, after being named a PBIS Bronze Implementation Award school for a second straight year, our PBIS team meets twice per month to review and identify any new Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 PBIS supported supported students on our campus. Our PBIS Coach shares updates on our Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 students with the whole staff on selected monthly late start meeting sessions.

In the 2019-20 school year, we were named a PBIS Platinum Implementation Award school for the first time ever after 3 years in PBIS. We are now entering our PBIS Sustainability Training and employing our Multi-Tiered Support Systems in Academics, Behavior and Social-Emotional Wellness within our PBIS model. All components of our PBIS plan mentioned in the previous three paragraphs are still being employed as part of our PBIS Sustainability model.

In the 2020-21 school year, we were named a PBIS California Care Award school for the first and only time ever. This was in recognition of how we supported our students within PBIS during the pandemic.

In the 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years, we were named a PBIS Platinum Implementation Award school each fall giving us this distinction now four times in our school’s history (2019, 2022, 2023 & 2024). As mentioned above during the initial year our school earned this award in the 2019-20 school year, all components of our PBIS plan listed under the PBIS Mission Statement are still being employed as part of our PBIS Sustainability model.
