Principal's Letter

Hello Early College High School Families,

As we enter the 2021-2022 school year, we are using this year to celebrate "15 Years of Excellence" since the school opened in 2006. I do not take for granted a day with having the privilege in serving as principal for the past 6 years. I am very excited to see what is in store for our students.

The past school year featured exercising flexibility throughout the entire year as was introduced to us the previous school year on March 13, 2020. Yet, I am happy for what many of our students were able to accomplish in light of transitioning from 100% distance learning, to hybrid learning, to 4-day/week in-person instruction to end the school year. Although these contexts never did result in a completely 100% in-person experience for our students in all classes, there were great accomplishments achieved:

* Over half of our students earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher this past semester making them eligible for the Principal's Honor Roll.

* Over half of our students made the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) list based on their academic marks in rigorous courses taken this past semester.

* Our MESA students placed in regional competitions while having to take this class in 100% distance learning up until the competitions were held.

* Our school was the only secondary school in the school district to be recognized as a 2020 PBIS California Award school due to the exemplary work conducted by our PTSA and Mental Health Services in addressing our students' social-emotional needs.

* Our school was the only school in the school district (and only one of four in the entire state) to earn a $15,000 state grant for exemplary work in our AVID program aimed at assisting our students in being college and career ready upon graduation.

* Our school was the only school in the school district this past spring to earn the 2021 California Distinguished School Award for continuing to reduce achievement gaps while attaining high achievement for all students. The third time ever ECHS has received this award in its 15-year history (2009, 2019 and 2021)!

In closing, I believe this 2021-2022 school year will be more normal than this past school year as we plan to have all students on campus 5 days/week for all classes (high school and college). We aim to host the events that our students look forward to annually such as house competitions and dances. I continue to encourage our parents and families to be partners with ECHS. Your involvement is vital as we continue to enhance your child's educational experience and opportunities aligned with our school's vision and mission. Please consider to take part in our PTSA this coming school year as there will be many ways you can offer your service.

Keep Pressing On!
