Principal's Letter

Principal David M. Martinez, Ed.D.

Hello Early College High School Families,

I am eagerly anticipating the start of the 2025-26 school year, which not only signifies my 11th year serving as ECHS Principal but also marks the school’s 20th school year since being established in 2006. The number of accomplishments by our students and staff during this time is impressive to say the least, and there will be more to announce over the course of this school year as they become official news to share. It is a pure reflection of our entire ECHS Team aiming to provide excellence for our students and families!

Our students on average complete 1-2 years of college units by the time they graduate, putting them in a great position to complete all their general education college units and possibly associate degrees from Coastline College. In conjunction with the community service and extra-curricular opportunities available to them, our students are becoming strong candidates for the colleges and universities they apply to. We continue to be the only school in California to have earned the California Distinguished School, Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and National Blue Ribbon School Awards. We are also a 7-time California PBIS Award recipient and anticipate receiving our 8th PBIS award this fall. This is an award that recognizes schools with positive and successful practices, resources, and supports we can provide our students with their mental health and approach to their academics.

I encourage our parents and families to be partners with ECHS. Our PTSA has been in place here at ECHS for over 10 years and is an incredible supporter of our school’s vision and mission. Your involvement is vital as we continue to enhance your child’s unique educational experience and opportunities that exist at ECHS. Please consider taking part in our PTSA this coming school year as there will be many ways you can offer your service.

Let’s continue our work together by positively promoting our young people in their pursuit of achieving excellence!

Keep Pressing On!
