Early College High School (ECHS) received the California Distinguished Schools Award. The Distinguished School Award honors California's most exemplary and inspiring public schools.

California Distinguished School Award LogoECHS earned the prestigious distinction for demonstrating exceptional student performance for two consecutive school years.

In 2019, California used a multiple measures accountability system to identify eligible schools based on their performance and progress on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard. Some examples include test scores, suspensions and graduation rates. Along with celebrating high achievers, the goal is to spotlight successful programs and practices that can be replicated elsewhere.

“This award is a reflection of our superior staff, students and families,” said Dr. Dave Martinez, ECHS principal. “We aim to hold ourselves to high expectations and strive for excellence,” he said.

ECHS is a college preparatory educational program that’s designed to fulfill and exceed University of California “a-g” admission requirements. The program is designed to engage a wide spectrum of students by offering a robust and rigorous curriculum, supported by technology and aligned to student interests and educational standards. The emphasis on integrated project-based learning, personalized instruction, and a strong collaboration with Coastline Community College allows students to graduate with a high school diploma and one-two years of college coursework.

In addition to a climate of high expectations and a strong academic culture, ECHS's mission includes the development of strong character, good judgment, and ethical behavior.
